Giving nature a chance to recover in the heart of Highland Perthshire.
A little piece of Scotland, coming back to life
When you stay at Lettoch Cottages, you're staying alongside something rather special. Surrounding our home is a 17-acre rewilding project where we're working to restore native woodland, wildflower meadows, ponds and wetlands, giving nature the space it needs to thrive. Lettoch was once a small hill farm, grazed by sheep, cattle and ponies. Over time, intensive grazing by livestock and deer took its toll on the landscape, reducing the variety of plants and wildlife that could flourish here. We wanted to see what might happen if we gave nature a helping hand – and then allowed it to take the lead.
Letting nature do the work
Our approach to rewilding is relatively simple: remove some of the pressures that prevent nature from recovering, restore habitats where necessary, and then stand back and watch what happens. We're encouraging native trees to regenerate naturally, allowing wildflowers to return to former grazing land, creating wildlife ponds and developing green corridors to help animals move safely through the landscape. Already we're seeing changes. Wildflowers are flourishing in the meadows, ponds are attracting frogs, newts and insects, and our woodlands are being given the opportunity to regenerate. It's a long-term project, and we're learning as we go, with the help of experienced ecologists and conservationists.
Sharing the experience
One of the pleasures of living at Lettoch is watching the natural world change with the seasons. Red squirrels are regular visitors, birdsong fills the woodland, and our meadows come alive with flowers and insects during the summer months. We hope that staying here gives our guests an opportunity to slow down, appreciate the landscape and perhaps see the natural world a little differently. Rewilding isn't about turning back the clock. It's about creating a healthier, richer landscape for the future – and discovering just how much nature can achieve when we give it the chance.
We're delighted to share that journey with you.
